Some Info On The Mixer

This mixer is one of the easiest mixers we have used. The bowl locks in place so you do not have to hold it and the head of the mixer lifts up which makes pouring in ingredients easier and way less messy. To adjust the speed of the mixer there is a switch on the side of the head that starts with a slow stir and ends with a fast whip. The switch makes it easy to quickly turn it off and it also clicks at every interval to let you know when you have reached the next speed. This makes adjusting the speed helpful when you need to watch the ingredients for changes.

There are different attachments you can use. There is a wire whip, a coated bread hook, and a coated flat beater. The wire whip works well when you need to whisk eggs or mix liquid and solid ingredients together and the bread hook is great for making and kneading bread dough. The coated flat beater can be used for many things like beating eggs and mixing ingredients that are of a thicker consistency. These attachments are great for whatever you are making.

KitchenAid 7 Qt bowl Lift Stand Mixer Review

We spent days researching, watching videos, calling people that bake a lot and reading, reading, reading. Our final choice was this model. We just love how quiet this model is, from what we understand, it is because of the DC motor. The lift bowl is nice, we understand why it is needed if you are doing heavy batches at a time. The paddle mixed extremely well, all was incorporated and we did not have to stop and scrap the sides regularly, but a smaller bowl would serve well. However, we did like how easy it was to clean. A real powerhouse of a mixer. The more robust motor and build is really noticeable. The 7 quart is a great upgrade from the Artisan, especially accommodating for larger quantities of product needed. An unexpected surprise has been its performance. It is very smooth, noticeably quieter and more powerful than the Artisan.

Cleaning up

Cleanup for this machine is not quite as easy as other models from the line: although the work bowl is dishwasher safe, the attachments and machine are not.

However, the few extra minutes it takes to hand wash the attachments are well worth all the benefits this machine has to offer. Make sure to dry them immediately after washing for the best care.

To keep the machine itself clean, never submerge it fully in water. When it does require cleaning, just wipe it down with a damp, soapy washcloth.

Before you use the mixer, wash the bowl at least 3 times to remove any dark residue. As we know that any kitchen appliance you purchase will for sure have to be given a quick thorough wash before use, that’s normal. Also wash all the attachments like the hook, beater and wire whip. Before mixing, we always check to make sure there is no residue left by wiping with a paper towel. This way, your whipped cream, egg whites or butter won’t have any grey streaks in them.

Best way we found to handle any black residue is put salt in it and cut a lemon in half. Squeeze enough juice to make kind of a paste and use the half lemon to scrub the bowl with the juice/salt mix. You’ll see the black coming off. Do a good job adding salt as needed. Then just wash with some dish soap and you’re all good.

Other Considerations

In the mid-2000s, KitchenAid changed their classic construction and replaced pieces of the machine with plastic parts (primarily gear boxes) that proved to be less durable than the previous models.

Rest assured that KitchenAid has since gone back to the old methods of construction and any Pro Line models purchased now will be the same solid, durable appliances that you grew up with. And they are still made in the USA,

Pros

  • The Power – it does a fantastic job kneading bread dough.
  • Can use the KitchenAid attachments without it bogging down.
  • The Colour.
  • It is easy to clean.
  • The large whisk, spiral dough hook, and large flat-beater are great and make quick work of mixing dough’s/batters.
  • We liked that the power of the Pro line was measured in horsepower instead of watts.
  • Its coat is nice and smooth.
  • It is quiet and it is powerful.

Cons

  • Makes the clicking noise but nothing to be alarmed about.
  • Very heavy and not easy to store.
  • The bowl will not stay on the notches it keeps rocking like it is going to come off.
  • Stainless steel bowl had black residue stuck to the handle.
  • The paddle required some adjustment, as it was hitting the bowl side hard.

Conclusion

And that’s it for our KitchenAid 7 Qt Mixer review. Although not offered in as many colors as most of the smaller machines in the KitchenAid line up, the four choices cover the basic spectrum and should allow you to choose one that will complement your kitchen’s colour scheme. Considering the durability of this product and customer service provided by KitchenAid, we can rest assured that this rather big purchase is a good one. If you’re not sure you need a machine with quite this much capacity and power and are looking for something a little less expensive, you might look at another great option from KitchenAid: The 5-Quart Artisan.
