Breville Scraper Mixer Pro Review Summary
Honestly, this machine has exceeded our expectations. For the low price that was paid for it and compared to a lot of the other stand mixers on the market, this stand mixer really stands out. With its nifty, ‘futuristic’ features, the Breville Scraper Mixer Pro proves to be very innovative in its own unique design. Although it isn’t flawless, we are very satisfied with the purchase. Good one Breville!
Why You Need An Electric Mixer
A stand mixer takes mixing foods and baking to a whole new level. There are a few things to consider if you’re interested in buying a stand mixer. It allows you to mix, whip or blend for longer periods of time without tiring you out. Since stand mixers generally have much more power than the hand mixers, you can more easily knead heavier dough, cake batter as well and mix pie larger dough. We often times tend to skimp on mixing minutes when holding a portable hand mixer, but with a stand mixer, it has the power to do a better mixing job in less time. The preset mixing action provides a more efficient blending and mixing of ingredients.
Convenience In The Kitchen
Since you can walk away at any time for a few moments to go and gather the ingredients or start your clean-up, a stand mixer will save you overall food preparation time and provides great hands-off convenience. All of the above leads to an enhanced blending, beating or mixing and that usually leads to much better baking results.
You can of course mix anything you usually would with a hand mixer in a stand mixer. The only setback is that a portable hand mixer can only be used in any pot or bowl, while a stand mixer is solely limited to the capacity of its bowl.
You can do so much more with a stand mixer when it comes to its mixing power and heavier dough or batters. As for the storage, a stand mixer can be stored in a cabinet, but you’ll use it more if it’s conveniently located on the counter. A hand mixer needs the least storage space and is often stored in a cupboard or in a deep drawer.
How to decide.
So which is best for you? At the very least, you should have a hand mixer. But if you’re an avid home baker or bake for the sheer benefit and food savings it affords your family, you’ll enjoy the extra power and function of a stand mixer. If you often bake for school or social functions, you’ll be very glad to have a stand mixer. Some kitchens have both.
Stand mixers such as the Kitchen Aid models, offer additional function with special attachments that allow the mixer motors to run other helpful kitchen tools. Such a multi function appliance could save you counter space and money if you intend to purchase all those appliances.

The flexible edge on this outstanding beater wipes down the sides and bottom of the bowl with every turn making clean up a breeze.
The Scraper Mixer Pro includes a Scraper beater, Standard flat beater, Dough hook, Whisk, Splash Guard & Spatula attachments to help you create anything from bread and pasta dough to icing and whipped cream.
Using The Brevllle Scraper Pro Mixer
We enjoy the Breville mixer & it’s a good substitute for a Kitchenaid if you are looking to save money. This mixer is lighter and much easier to use. We especially love the digital timer and the extended number of power modes. The first thing we made were chocolate chip cookies, with more chocolate chips than dough. The Breville didn’t hesitate or lose any power.
The next step in the evolution of the stand mixer, Breville’s Scraper Mixer Pro stand mixer takes the classic features of the stand mixer to the next level. Features that are standard on other mixers were upgraded with a new level of attention to detail that only Breville can provide.
The Nice Features
Like all Breville products, the Scraper Mixer Pro was designed with both aesthetics and function in mind. The 5 quart deep stainless steel bowl can easily accommodate almost all recipes, even for larger portions during the holiday season. The tilt-release head locks into place for the safe addition of ingredients, so you don’t have to worry about the mixer head falling down when you’ve tilted it back, during the pouring process the plastic shield prevents splattering when adding in ingredients while the mixer is still on.
The handle on the front of the mixer and the handholds on the bottom make it easier to transport and lift, and the power cord conveniently stores inside the base of the mixer. From its main features down to every single last detail, the Breville stand mixer was solely built for baking. There are two additions to the Breville that we appreciated. The first is the inclusion of a scrapper blade and the second is a thin spatula that is designed and shaped to scrape the Breville’s bowl. The spatula allows us to easily clear the side’s right down to the bottom of the bowl.
Handy Tips For Using The Mixer
Before you use the mixer, wash the bowl at least 3 times to remove any dark residue. As we know that any kitchen appliance you purchase will for sure have to be given a quick thorough wash before use, that’s normal. Also wash all the attachments like the hook, beater and wire whip. Before mixing, we always check to make sure there is no residue left by wiping with a paper towel. This way, your whipped cream, egg whites or butter won’t have any grey streaks in them.
Whenever you’re mixing anything, always make sure to start at a low speed and then slowly increase as you go. There are some great tips given in the manual regarding the correct speed to use for different ingredients. The pouring plastic shield can also be washed in clean warm soapy water or on top rack of your dishwasher. The dough hook, beater and whip wire are all hand wash only, do not put them in the dishwasher or they will get ruined. Wipe down the shaft and entire mixer with a clean damp cloth and leave to dry.
What We Liked
- The speed indicator firstly looks aesthetically pleasingly and secondly is a really innovative way to ensure accuracy and ease when mixing various different ingredients. Rather than using numbers, the speed is linked to its function (i.e. aerating is the highest speed).
- The timer comes in handy when you need to multitask or complete other things around the house. The machine automatically stops once the time allocated has run out. This allows for less room for error.
- Scraper beater works a treat. There’s no need to stop the machine and continuously scrape the bottom of the bowl. It saves time and also produces a better product.
- It looks very pleasing to the eye.
- Easy to clean.
What Could Be Better
- The motor head shakes when you use a recipe that requires more than 3 cups of flour (approx.). It doesn’t gangnam style dance across the kitchen counter, but it does move substantially, which we have to admit, gave us a bit of anxiety when we first used it. We just try and avoid using recipes, which call for a huger quantities.
- The whisk blade sits about 1/8 inch (3mm) off the bottom of the bowl
- When trying to whip small amounts of butter (one stick) or cream (1/2 cup) one has to raise the bowl up by detaching it from the base.
Conclusion
Great for everyday use, we believe the Breville to be an outstanding stand mixer with a host of features that equal or exceed the popular Kitchen Aids.
Our last bit of advice is to simply ignore the negative reviews for the Breville mixers for the most part. The company sell tens of thousands of mixers each year if not more and the vast majority continue to perform flawlessly over time. Whichever mixer you choose to buy will serve you well and will hopefully last to be handed down to future bakers in your life.
